Music

"My followers insist on making me a Lecrae fan"

That's the tweet that started a  debate and discussion about music. Honestly I  don't tweet stuff to get negative attention, I don't tweet things to be controversial. I tweet whatever is on my heart in terms of spreading the gospel or trying to encourage someone, my son or whatever I'm dealing with that day.(I try not to tweet, update, vlog or post ANYTHING when I'm in a bad mood) So my intentions are NEVER to cause a big deal negatively...

Well I just recently found out who Lecrae was, through my followers on twitter. He is an Christian rap artist. I've only heard like 2 or 3 of his songs. TO ME his music is just like secular rap, only he's talking about God and stuff, which is perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not bashing this man or his gift or his ministry... Let me give some back ground....

(December 7th 2011 Before going to the Wale Concert)

I was a hard core rap fan.. not a fan of hard core rap, but I loved music of all types, including rap. I liked Jay-z back on the blue print, black album etc... I loved Kanye West when he first came out, and If you REALLY know me, you know I absolutely LOVED Wale! Last year in December I was at his concert rapping along to Black Cobain and Wale's songs, yes I knew every word because I loved them and their music.. Shortly after the concert I began to feel convicted for listening to Wale, granted at this point he was the ONLY rapper I listened too, but he's songs started getting more and more unattractive to me.. That was the holy ghost stepping in, revealing certain things to me .... it wasn't humans it wasn't my mom or my dad it was the holy ghost. Christians have to understand ONLY the holy ghost can convict a person. You cant not change a person, that is God's job... please let God do his job. If you feel someone is going down the wrong path PRAY FOR THEM!
So anyway I stopped listening to his music, I even stopped listening to Tiara Thomas and I loved her also..

Music is very powerful and people fail to realize the power music has.

A Psalm. A song for the Sabbath. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.

Psalm 40:3

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

So to me music is used to praise God.. SOME secular music.... not all is used to praise and glorify other gods, people, money, sex, material things and so forth. I just cant glorify the things God hates... I cant do that.. I was convicted for doing that so I don't listen to that type of music.

WELL what does this have to do with Lecrae?? Glad you asked.. The songs that I heard of his (I don't know the names) .. The beat was reminiscent of the songs I used to listen to, with that came memories and and "mannerisms"  reminiscent of me listening to secular rap. I believe that once we've been delivered from certain things it doesn't just stop there, we have to guard our hearts, so we wont slip back into those old ways.  Case in point, last night on Vh1's story tellers Taylor Swift was performing, I know a few of her songs and I was singing along then suddenly I started to think of MY past relationships(because that's what she was singing about) and Thankfully I caught myself, but it would've been SO easy for me to slip back into that mind frame... When I hear a song on a commercial that's secular, sometimes I find myself dancing in a way that might not be best suited and I'm like WHOA, why am I dancing to that song like that! I have to guard my heart! Sooo this Lecrae guy for ME, is too close to the secular rap I used to listen too, and it wasn't easy for me to give up on Wale, please understand I fought the holy spirit on that lol clearly I lost, but I have to obey God... This is about a relationship, if my father says no I'm not okay with you doing this, going there, talking to him, listening to that I'm not gonna do it. I don't necessarily feel I would be convicted if I listened to Lecrae more often, I'm just not ready

Now when I told my followers that  I received messages like  "your not filled with the holy spirit" "your not being led by God" "how can I hate God's ministry"
things of that nature from fellow CHRISTIANS!!... hmm doesn't seem very Christ like now does it?...

Me not listening to Lecrae is not saying I hate him, the gift God gave him or the ministry he's in... I love the music ministry I love people, I love God's gifts...

Me not listening to Lecrae has nothing to do with being led by God.. its a preference.. I'm sure you guys don't listen to ALL the gospel artists that are out, you have some that you prefer over others... as do I. Am I wrong? Am I hating God's ministry um No!

I think Christians have to understand that as long as your obeying God, and listening to him, keeping his commandments and so forth, there is no right or wrong way to praise God.. its a RELATIONSHIP!! Just how you have "rules" and boundaries when you in a relationship with a male or female, your gonna have "rules" and boundaries with God.. and they are set by the holy spirit. They arent gonna be the same for everyone... I know some Christians that still listen to secular music. That doesn't make them bad, I have no say on what THEY do. It's between them and God. I can give MY opinion, but I'm not saying my way of doing this is the best way to be a Christian and if you don't do what I do your going to hell.NO, but I believe it's best for me and my relationship with Christ. If I'm wrong I know for a fact the holy ghost will correct me

John 16:7-11

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

Also Christians be-careful not to make people your idol god. I mean the way they were "defending" Lecrae I pray they defend Christ in such a way...

Jesus saved me, not Lecrae. I don't have to listen to him to prove I'm filled with the holy spirit or that I'm a believer, my lifestyle proves that..

If you love someone tell them

I love you
